Dec 16, 2020
Dear MN Youth Basketball Alliance (MYBA) Association Leaders:
Governor Tim Walz held a press conference today, December 16th. He provided some direction and loosening of restrictions for youth sports when EO 20-99 expires.
Listed below is a recap of his announcements.
- Beginning January 4: Youth Sports practices may resume
- To Be Determined: Competition may resume
As we have stated in previous correspondence over the past few weeks, it is up to all of us (as a collective youth basketball community) to prove that we have a Return to Participation (RTP) Plan operate in a safe way. The MYAS, MYBA RTP Task Force and MYBA/MYAS Board of Advisors will continue that mission over the next week.
The MYBA RTP Task Force has submitted the MYBA RTP Manual (RTP Plan, including the Checklist and Table of Contents) to members of Governor Walz’s cabinet, and the MN Department of Health (MDH), and are waiting next steps. We are also working directly with the U.S. Council for Athlete’s Health (USCAH), as they are providing a third-party review of the RTP Manual. In the coming days, you (as a leader of a MYBA member association) will receive updates and action items from the MYBA RTP Task Force. Your cooperation is imperative for a successful return to practice on January 4th and competition on a date to be named later.
