Online Seeding Process
Announcements
- Coaches must be attached to their team to gain access to the seeding process.
- The class (A, B, C) of a team must match the class attached to the division that they are participating in.
- Example: A team registered for the 6th Grade Boys division must have the B6B class attached to their team.
- Note: If team that is classified as a C team registers for a B division (as an example), their team classification automatically changed to B.

Access and Instructions
- Coaches from each registered team have the opportunity to participate in the seeding process. Coaches must have their user account attached as a coach for their team in RegisterPlay.
- Instructions will be emailed to all participating coaches once each step begins (Please verify your email address is correct in your RegisterPlay user account)
- Using a desktop or laptop computer is recommended.
Pre-Seeding Process Prep
- MYAS staff will review all participating teams to verify they are registered in the appropriate division.
- The MYAS reserves the right to move teams from one division to another.
- The divisions will be verified by the MYBA Competition Committee (consisting of members of the MYBA Board of Advisors) and MYAS staff.
Seeding Process Overview
- Data within the RegisterPlay platform will play a significant role in determining the tiers that teams are placed into.
- The process will utilize game results and team data housed in RegisterPlay, combined with structured coach input, to ensure accuracy and fairness.
- This blended approach balances objective performance data with informed, on-court insight from coaches.
- Coaches will have input in Step 1 (Tier Selection) and Step 2 (Seeding).
Two-Step Process
Step 1: Tier Selection- Identify the top teams within your subdivision.
- Coaches will review the teams within their subdivision and identify the top teams.
- Teams will be sorted by their In-Class Strength that is calculated within the RegisterPlay platform.
- The In-Class Strength calculation includes winning percentage, margin of victory and strength of opponents.
- In most cases, there will be 16 teams in each subdivision.
- In most cases, coaches will identify the top 8 teams in their subdivision.
Step 2: Rank the teams within your tier.
- The coaches can rank each of the teams in their tier.
- Most tiers will have 16 teams in them.
- Teams will be sorted by their In-Class Strength that is calculated within the RegisterPlay platform.
- The In-Class Strength calculation includes record, margin of victory and strength of opponents.
Example of Seeding Process
Example: There are 118 4th Grade Girls teams registered.
Team Breakdown
- 23 A teams: The A teams will be ranked 1-23
- 36 B teams: The B teams will be ranked 24-59
- 59 C teams: The C teams will be ranked 60-118
Step 1: Tier Selection
- The A teams ranked 1-8 in each grade will not participate in Step 1: Tier Selection of the seeding process.
- They will be locked into Tier 1.
- The 16 teams ranked 9-24 will form Subdivision A.
- The coaches in this subdivision will identify the best 8 teams within their subdivision.
- The best 8 teams from Subdivision A will be combined with the top 8 teams that were locked in Tier 1.
- This will form the 16 team Tier 1.
- The 16 teams ranked 25-40 will form Subdivision B.
- The coaches in this subdivision will identify the best 8 teams within their subdivision.
- The best 8 teams from Subdivision B will be combined with the bottom 8 teams from Subdivision A.
- This will form the 16 team Tier 2.
- The 16 teams ranked 41-56 will form Subdivision C.
- The coaches in this subdivision will identify the best 8 teams within their subdivision.
- The best 8 teams from Subdivision C will be combined with the bottom 8 teams from Subdivision B.
- This will form the 16 team Tier 3.
- This process will be replicated for the remaining teams and subdivisions.
Step 2: Ranking/Seeding the Teams within your Tier
- Most tiers will have 16 teams in them.
- Coaches will rank the teams within their tier.
- The average will determine how the teams are seeded on the bracket.
Additional Notes
- The MYAS staff and the MYBA Competition and Rankings Task Force reserve the right to move teams from one division (A, B, C) to another, if necessary, to ensure competitive balance and integrity within each division. This review will take place shortly after the entry deadline.
- Once coaches have completed the seeding process, MYAS will not make any changes to team seeds or tier placements.
Preparation Tips
- Ensure your team plays in tournaments using RegisterPlay Brackets.
- Encourage your association leaders to register your team for as many RegisterPlay tournaments as possible.
